Hacking water meters.

Forget hacking hacking medical devices. These days even water can be hacked - well at least the way it's used can be...

Venture Beat wrote an article about wireless water reading technology. Ironically, as the flow meters become easier to install and more advanced, the less security can be implemented. Just like how a wired Ethernet connection is much more reliable than a wireless connection.

A security expert at this past weekend's Defcon explained how utilities can be easily manipulated into undercharging on monthly electricity bills. This guy believes the losses could be in the billions for water companies and that these vulnerabilities could easily be patched with proper encryption practices.

One less reason to trust the system.
