How Apple put the stranglehold on the mobile device market.

Why is it that Apple has been able to dominate with the release of new iPhones and iPads over the past 5 years or so...

Are their products that much more superior?

In short, I don't really think so. And I do think Android is catching up - especially with all the moves Google has made over the last while.

All that is apple points out some interesting info about why they think Apple has had such great success. Some of their main points include:

1. Exclusivity Deals for the Win
2. Indirectly Obstructing Progress
3. Coolness is All That Counts

The "coolness" factor they discuss is beginning to fade in my opinion. As Apple continues their annual releases of devices, many loyal followers are beginning to become frustrated with the company. New devices are only top of the line for short periods of time and Apple is giving off the impression that with every new device they release, there are a plethora of upgrades which they save for a future device. It's difficult to be a fan of a company which renders their own devices obsolete every year.

A good example I like to use is the Xbox 360 - take a look at how long the console has dominated the gaming market...and when the release date was...Microsoft put all their eggs in one basket to produce the most superior gaming console their engineers could fathom.

Sometimes Apple just pisses me off. People who buy every single
new device seem blinded by this type of dedication to Apple and don't realize they are being suckered on an annual basis of a large chunk of change.

Unless you think wasting money is "cool", I think you'll agree that Apple is starting to lose it's fanbase with these cash grab device upgrades.
