A new way to stroke the egos of hackers around the world has just been discovered. If they had something to prove before - I can't imagine their newfound determination to "up" their rankings on this newly created hacker website.
I first read the article on Computer World this morning which describes the functionality of the site and the thousands of members it has accumulated since July 22nd.
Basically, the site has created a virtual playground for hackers to boast about their accomplishments and any big name sites they may have been ale to take down. If they can provide evidence - they will earn points based on the difficulty of a larger corporation's website. The current leader has boasted a hack of the Huffington post.
Special features also include bounties or specialized sites to breach that will earn extra points such as government or military. As well, a form of dueling exists where members race to hack certain sites faster than an opponent.
According to the members of rankmyhack.org, about 11,000 sites have been taken down to date.
